WELCOME
Welcome to our parish website, here at St Vincent de Paul we strive to unit our local community in our weekly masses as well as the many services we provide through our ministries. Our parish comes under the Diocese of Brentwood, led by our Bishop, The Rt Rev Alan Williams.
Saint Vincent’s Catholic Primary school is also part of our parish. If you would like to know more about the deep and vibrant history of our Patron Saint, Church and Catholic faith, please select the HISTORY tab on the top menu screen. There is also our NEWS LETTER and EVENTS section where you can find the latest updates.
People visit St Vincent, Becontree, for its rich historical and spiritual significance. As the first Catholic place of worship on the Becontree Estate, it holds a unique place in the history of the Catholic Church in the area. The church played a foundational role in establishing the Catholic community in Becontree and Dagenham, serving as the "mother parish" for several other parishes in the region.

2 Samuel 1:1-4, 11-12, 19, 23-27
‘How the mighty have fallen in the midst of the battle!’
Responsorial Psalm
Ps 80(79):2-3. 5-7. ℟4b
Let your face shine forth, O Lord, and we shall be saved.
O shepherd of Israel, hear us,
you who lead Joseph like a flock:
enthroned on the cherubim, shine forth
upon Ephraim, Benjamin, Manasseh.
Rouse up your might and come to save us.
Let your face shine forth, O Lord, and we shall be saved.
How long, O Lord, God of hosts,
will you be angry at the prayer of your people?
You have fed them with tears for their bread,
an abundance of tears for their drink.
You have made us the taunt of our neighbours;
our foes mock us among themselves.
Let your face shine forth, O Lord, and we shall be saved.
Gospel Acclamation
Cf. Acts 16:14b
Alleluia, alleluia.
Open our hearts, O Lord,
that we may pay attention to the words of your Son.
Alleluia.

Weekday Mass

What is the Liturgical Calendar?
The Liturgical Calendar begins every year on the First Sunday of Advent and runs through to the Solemnity of Christ the King.
The "Lectionary," the Mass readings from the Holy Bible, follows a Sunday cycle and a weekday cycle. The Liturgical Calendar follows a three-year cycle, each year being represented by the letters, A, B, and C. During the year A cycle, the Gospel of Matthew is the primary Gospel that is used for the readings.
In year B, Mark is the primary Gospel. In year C, Luke is the primary Gospel. The Gospel of John is proclaimed on particular Sundays in each of the years.
Seasons of the Liturgical Calendar
In each cycle of the Liturgical Calendar, you will find six Seasons:
-
Advent
-
Christmas
-
Ordinary Time
-
Lent
-
Triduum
-
Easter
-
Ordinary Time
During the year, in addition to the Sunday worship, the Church also celebrates Solemnities, Feasts, and Memorials, which may be on any day of the week. These occur during the year to commemorate special events or persons that are highly revered by the Catholic Church.
Year A: Year of Matthew
This year is Year A and the focus throughout the year is on Matthew’s Gospel. As we listen to this Gospel proclaimed throughout our liturgies this year, let’s reflect a little on some of the key understandings about Matthew’s Gospel.
